Hoogstraeten, Samuel van
Perspective box
One of six 17th c. perspective boxes left in the world. The ground frame is triangular, all four panels are painted on the inside. The front panel, now open, used to be closed, with a peep-hole in it (plus an opening for light to pass through).
This must be one of the earliest depictions of tea drinking requisites in Dutch painting, probably about 1660-80.
