Typical of the Bredius collection, Bredius always looked for exceptions in an artist’s oeuvre, is this piece, the only (known) painted landscape by the Haarlem sailor and marine painter Van Wieringen, pupil of Hendrick Vroom. However, landscape drawings and etchings by him are known.
