Verelst, Simon
Flowers in a vase
One of the few signed paintings of this master. This painting was made in the same year (1669) Verelst settled in London. It is possibly this Verelst painting which Samuel Pepys describes in his diary (1660-69):
“…the finest thing I ever saw in my life, the drops of dew hanging on the leaves, so as I was forced again and again to put my finger to it to feel, whether my eyes were deceived or not”
